Honiton U9s entertained two teams from Twyford on a sunny Saturday morning, writes Mark Fisher.
The Demons took on Twyford Barca first and were caught out by a well-organised team, who shot to a 9-0 victory, leaving Demons no time to recover.
Their next game against Twyford Madrid was a lot more promising, the team playing a lot better from the start and working hard throughout especially Phoenix Welch, Jake Mabbutt and Elliot Holdsworth who, along with Ross Hurford, scored in a 2-0 win.
The Devils started slowly against Madrid, really struggling in the first half but they were buoyed by a half-time team talk and Luke Matthews and Dominic McCreadie-Taylor netted two each. Zac Harrison was great in goal and Man of the Match went to Jo Evans.
The Devils came out nervously against Barca and were 2-0 down after five minutes but they got focused and, especially in the second half, were a different team, defending well and coming close to scoring so many times. The game ended 3-0 to Barca but I am so proud of the players as they never gave up! Man of the Match went to the whole team but Ewan Evans got the trophy for a fantastic day’s work.
