Honiton Running Club held their annual Charter Run last Saturday which is something different. Runners can start at any of a dozen different starting points with our closest one being Sidbury.

The idea was that they all converged on Honiton to celebrate the granting of the Charter to the local Market 750 plus years ago.

The town celebrates the occasion with music, dancing and market stalls so it is quite festive. The problem is that you have to catch the bus back to Sidbury or make your way back, by foot, up that pig of a hill out of Honiton!

Most runners preferred to take things easy as the Festival Run looms on the horizon. At the end of Folk Week, the Sidmouth Festival 10k Run, sponsored by Michelmores, starts at 11am on the Cliff Fields. Late entries will be accepted on the day at the Race HQ in Connaught Gardens.

l Bill Valentine left for the World Masters Track and Field Championships at the weekend. They are held every two years for athletes over 35 competing in five year age groups. He is competing in the 8k cross country as well as the 5 and 10k on the track and the club wishes him well.

In a different way our thoughts also go to Yvonne Smyth. Playing badminton last weekend she ruptured an Achilles tendon and that will keep her off the road for some time. Hard luck, Yvonne and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
