Sidmouth Warriors Under-8s drew one and won one in their latest two Exeter and District Youth League outings

First up Warriors took on Axminster with whom they shared the spoils in an entertaining encounter at Axminster.

The first half was one of few chances at either end of the pitch. However, on the odd occasion that the home side threatened Warriors’ glovesman Jamie White was equal to it and he made one superb save to deny the hosts the lead.

After the break the home side took the lead following a defensive mix-up!

However, Alistair Mounoury and Lucas O’Connor – both were outstanding throughout with energy and work-rate – helped set up leading scorer Lucas Vickery to level things up.

Only a stunning save by an impressive home goalkeeper denied Vickery a second in the final minute. The defending of Stepan Houvara was excellent in this game and Alastair Mounoury impressed down the right wing.

Next up Warriors took on Millwey Rise and it was young Vickery who took the scoring honours, netting yet another hat-trick to take his season’s tally to 26 – from just 14 outings!

Warriors scored four times in the first half with Alastair Mounoury rifling home one of them after fine work by the industrious Ethan Isaac.

Warriors made a couple of changes at the break and Millwey Rise hit back with three quick goals. At this stage Warriors looked as if they were set to fold, but, driven on by the coaches on the side lines they re-discovered their panache to net four more times to seal an 8-5 victory. The pick of the second half goals was another long-range strike from Mounoury who was named the Player of the Day for Warriors.
