Sidmouth Town were fully deserving of their 3-1 win over Teignmouth at Manstone Lane.

On a sunny, but blustery afternoon, Town fell behind before levelling through Ferenc Bodor.

A far-post finish by Chris Duchenski put Town ahead and the points were sealed courtesy of a trade-mark free-kick rifled home by Danny Clay.

Town joint boss Kevin Tooze said: “We needed that. Confidence plays a big part in football and we had been on the floor a bit after three defeats. It was not that we’d been playing particularly badly, but when you get a run of defeats you start to think the world is against you.

“To be fair to the lads, they showed some great character because, after falling behind, and given the recent run of results, it would have been easy for them to sit back and accept what might have come to them. However, they opted to roll their sleeves up and we got the job done.”

Town have no game this Saturday (November 24), but they are in action next Tuesday evening (November 27) when they visit Premier Division side Cullompton Rangers in the Walter C Parsons Funeral Directors Cup.

Of that game, Tooze says: “We have got nowt to lose have we? Let’s face it, they [Cullompton Rangers] are going to be expected to win, but it’s a cup tie and who knows?

“The thing is the lads have got previous this year for going to higher ranked sides in cup ties and getting big results. They have a smashing set-up there and we shall afford them plenty of respect, of course, but we are going there looking to do a number on them and, let’s face it, the lads are sure to be champing at the bit for there’s nothing quite like a floodlit cup tie against higher placed opposition and the chance to make a headline or two!”

Town will head for Mid Devon with Dan Churchill now back available, but they will be without the suspended Ben Clay.

In terms of the Town South West Peninsula League, Eastern Division campaign, they are back in action the following Saturday (December 1) when they travel to Appledore.

December promises to be an exciting month for Vikings followers for they can look forward to two East Devon derbies in the period.

After the Appledore trip, Town head for a December 8 match at Crediton and then host Axminster Town at Manstone Lane on the third Saturday of the month before, on December 22, they travel to Bovey Tracey.

The final Town game of 2018 is set to be the Boxing Day Manstone Lane meeting with Budleigh Salterton.
