Sidmouth Town are top of the Devon and Exeter Premier League, leading Topsham by two points.

And manager Paul Ashford wants the side to thoroughly enjoy the moment. "It's early days. We have got the wet weather, injuries and suspensions to kick in and it's a long time until May, so hey, let's enjoy it!"

Although sartorially trailing in Exeter boss Paul Tisdale's wake, Ashford has the same clear vision of where he wants his side to be.

Consistency, the drive to turn out for training whatever the weather, cameraderie and keeping a clean sheet are the basics he believes in and, with his management team, is trying to instil at Manstone Lane.

The created chances from the start against Budleigh, the quality of supply being superb and arguably they could have put more chances away.

However, Ashford is not going to pick holes in an on- form strikeforce, which includes Dan Norman whose two goal tally increased his record to 14 from five games.

Sidmouth were 1-0 up at half time, Norman and Andy Isaac scoring after the break.

Sidmouth displayed great teamwork, and Alex Frankpitt added grit and determination to the side's already well-developed flair and work ethic.

"I am really pleased," Ashford added, "but we do need to keep our feet on the ground for Saturday's East Devon Senior Cup match against Cullompton at home."

l And, if you want a smile on your face, go along on Sunday to Manstone Lane where there is an 11.15am kickoff for a match between Sidmouth Town Vets and Honiton Town Vets.

Players should include the sprightly forms of Ashford and assistant Ray Clapp, Reserves team boss Alan Rowe, along with the likes of Roger and Kevin Trivett, Kevin Marsh, Kevin Tooze, Ken Mortimore, Paddy Thomas, Jock McGrath and Colin Perryman.

The serious side of the match is to raise cash for research into Leukaemia in memory of former Honiton/Feniton player and manager Paul Sedgewick who died recently.

Sidmouth Town Reserves continued their good form, beating Crescent 3-2, their third win in the last four games.
