SIDMOUTH town footballers were champing at the bit for this match, having been without a game for four weeks. And manager Paul Ashford was delighted with the character they showed and the style of football played on a very muddy pitch. "There were some good individual performances, but collectively I think we are back on track," Ashford said. The Vikings went 1-0 down early on but kept their shape and, when Tom Chaplin earned a penalty, Chris Duchenski made no mistake with his shot. Ashford was delighted to go in 1-1 at half time, having witnessed his team create plenty of chances. After the break it was a different game. Clyst changed their formation and came back strongly. They scored again from a set piece and Ashford was wondering if Sidmouth would be able to get the game back in hand. He needn't have worried. Subs included Dave Green who made an excellent debut and the team stalwarts also dug deep. In the last 25 seconds of the match Andy Thompson popped up to score a cracking equaliser which was fully deserved. "I like to win games but was delighted to draw this one," Ashford added. l This week the Vikings face Thorverton at home, while the Reserves face a great derby clash away to near neighbours Sidbury United.
