Sidmouth Town are on course for their best finish in Division One East after a 2-1 win at Totnes and Dartington.

The Vikings have never previously reached the 40-point barrier since being promoted into the division four years ago.

Saturday’s win at Foxhole took Sidmouth to exactly 40 – and manager Josh Stunnell is looking to add a few more yet.

“We have got Newton Spurs on Saturday and will be looking to get a result,” said Stunnell.

“Like a lot of sides in this division they have two teams – midweek and Saturdays – and like most you don’t want to play them in the week when they are stronger.

“Although they are close to the bottom you have to watch out for their front two, in particular Adam Dyson who is dangerous.”

The Vikings weren’t at their best before half-time against T&D and were a goal down and going nowhere when a Tony Cox goal changed the game.

“It flew in from about 35 yards out and you could see everyone’s tails come up,” said Stunnell.

“A couple of minutes later Riki Pitter tapped one in for 2-1 and that’s how it stayed.”

Stunnell said he had been forced to rob the Reserves to get a side out having been hurt by cry-offs before the match.

“There were seven changes from the side picked on Tuesday to the one that played,” said Stunnell.

“I don’t want to do that if I can help it as the Reserves are third and with six games to go can still get promoted.”

Depleted or otherwise the Reserves were still too strong for Newtown, running out 4-0 winners.

They are at home to Culm United this Saturday.
