Sidmouth Town 1, Galmpton 3

Sidmouth certainly started the brighter of the two sides and it was no surprise when Adam Whitty fired home past the visiting keeper after just 15 minutes.

Town continued to push forward and Whitty nearly doubled the lead with a headed effort that hit the post. Luke Ashford in the home goal then saved smartly with his legs to keep Galmpton at bay.

Pete Grover had a chance when put through only to see his deft touch skid away from the goal. Galmpton were starting to improve and equalised with a 25-yard effort that gave Ashford little chance.

At the end of the first half - the best manager Paddy Thomas has seen this season - Sidmouth could count themselves a little unlucky on possession and chances made.

The second half was a reversal of the previous 45mins as Galmpton upped the tempo and started to show why they are a top six side.

However, Town defended stubbornly and it was a harsh penalty given against Ashford that gave the visitors a 2-1 lead with an hour played. Galmpton had the upper hand and Sidmouth were finding it difficult to create any openings that could see them draw level.

On 75 minutes, the visitors were awarded their second penalty when Mark Badcock brought the visiting centre forward down in the box ,a penalty which was tucked away coolly.

A lot of positives can be taken from this game
