Jonathan Waley is the new East Budleigh Chess Blitz Champion with a clean score of five points, writes Brian Gosling.

He took full advantage of lacklustre play from his opponents and the fact that the previous winner was not able to defend his title due to illness.

East Budleigh Chess Club are in Exeter and District League action on the first day of February when they have a Thursday evening (7pm) meeting with Exeter University B team at home.

Later in the month, the club will be entertaining Seaton in the Newman Rapid League.

In the same fixture away last year, Seaton, who are the current reigning league champions, played their high graded players on their top three boards.

Therefore, it was not surprising that the final score was one of 6-2 in favour of Seaton.

The club is hoping that a much-strengthened team will give a more positive result this time!

The next meeting for East Budleigh Chess Club is Thursday, February 8, at the All Saints Church Hall, East Budleigh, with a 6.50pm start time.
