Want to start running? Beginners’ group starts at Sidmouth
The Forest Flyer is a four-mile off-road race that takes place in and around Haldon Forest, writes Sarah Brown.
Aaron Smith was the only Sidmouth Running Club member who decided to give it a go on Friday morning, and completed the hilly, muddy course in 27.46 minutes, earning him 26th place out of the 118 entrants.
?On Monday, despite the torrential rain, Lustleigh Village Show, and therefore the 10k run, were still on.
Some running club members woke up, saw the rain and opted to stay in bed, but Becky Robson, Chris Robinson and John Docherty decided to brave it. The run starts by going instantly up through the woods, before a sharp on-road descent.
It then winds through the village before finishing back in the showground. John Docherty had a great run, and was the first Sidmouth runner home; with Becky and Chris coming in together and describing it as ‘lovely’. The main reason for going to Lustleigh is for the show and the cider afterwards, which after running 6.25 miles, is definitely allowed!

It would be great to see some new faces, or some that have just been out of running action for a while!
