NEW faces and fresh confidence abound at Washbrook Meadows as Ottery St Mary prepare for the new season.

All but a few old faces remain of the team that had a largely poor last season in the South West Pensinular Football League, Division 1 East.

More than 100 goals were conceded during the campaign.

“There’s no way we’re going to concede that many again.

“We want to win the division - and we can with the great bunch of players we have,” said new manager Dave Bunney, this week.

New faces include striker-cum-winger Lance Easton, signed from Saltash United, who is reported to have turned down a big money offer to play for the Otters.

Other new players joining the club include right and left back pairing of Richard Jones and Dan Gill, from Millbrook, also centre half Darryl Johnston from Millbrook, and striker Ash McDermid from Alphington.

The man with Division 1 West experience admitted he had failed to get one player he was after but was extremely pleased with the squad, their fitness and training (twice a week) and the way they had gelled in a short time.

“There have been some great captures and it’s caused quite a stir in the Plymouth region. We’re brimming with confidence.”

First league game is away to Galmpton Gents (September 21) followed on the Tuesday away to Newton Abbot Spurs.

In recent friendlies they beat Edgcumbe 4-2 and drew 1-1 with premier outfit Launceston.
