Sidmouth Town went down 4-2 in their South West Peninsula League, Eastern Division match at Totnes and Dartington.

Once again it was a combination of poor finishing and individual defensive errors that led to the Vikings latest defeat – their seventh in 11 league games this season.

The Vikings travelled to South Devon with Alex Raistrick and Antony Griffiths back in action, but were missing central defender Jamie Newbery who was on Devon County Under-19 duty.

Town began well and had two terrific opportunities to open the scoring inside 20 minutes.

In the 15th minute Riki Pitter sent Cameron Vere clear, and Vere did everything but score, rounding the keeper only to see his effort cannon back off the upright!

Three minutes later Vere was again holding his head in his hands as, with the ball at his feet eight yards out and with only the glovesman to beat he put the ball, into his gloves!

Five minutes before the break Kieran White miss timed his clearance and that gifted the home side a second.

Town boss Josh Stunell tweaked his side’s formation at the break, introducing teenager Tyler Wellman and the youngster made an instant impact with his powerful running and industrious work.

Town were in the ascendency when, against the run of play, the home side netted a third.

However, Wellman scored his first senior goal for the Vikings, heading home a cross from Ashley Small. In the 70th minute Town, and their supporters, were left aghast when Pitter was bundled over in the area and all the match official warded was a goal kick to the hosts!

An 80th minute fourth from Totnes and Dartington effectively ended the contest, but battling Town still managed to net a second with Pitter scoring late on.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Town travel to Brixham (3pm).
