The Men’s Invitation meeting at Sidmouth is a chance for members to invite playing partners from different clubs for the four ball better ball competition, writes Chris Roberts.

This is played using three-quarter handicaps and off white tees which makes is a tough test.

When all the scores where entered on to the leader board back in the clubhouse the winners where Welsman and Macklin which to every member is Bob Welsman and Colin Macklin, but this is the invitation?

On closer examination it was Bob Welsman and S Macklin (Colin’s son) who secured the victory!

With Macklin junior playing with his dads regular partner and posting the winning score of 43 points, this may have left Macklin senior voicing some of his eloquent phrases. A single point back in second place was station chief Steve ‘the legend’ Crabb and his playing partner for the day (more successful than with his normal playing partner), Keith Denning, a further point back it was a two-way tie with Trevor Kerridge and M Penlington edging out Lester Willmington and A Hale on countback.
