West Hill Wasps under-10s will regard themselves as very unlucky not to be in the draw for the next round of the cup after totally dominating the game against league leaders Newton Abbot. The stats told the story with the Wasps having 14 shots on target compared with the visitors' 3.The Wasps set their stall out from the start, attacking at every opportunity and, in the first minute, Kyle Stone's shot whistled wide of the post. Cameron Souter-Frost's shot was well saved by the Newton Abbot keeper, but a minute later the Wasps got their goal with a sweet low shot into the bottom left hand corner by Tom Collins.Newton Abbot did break and a great tackle by Jack Khaliq stopped one attack then a good save by Wasps' keeper Calum Hardwick resulted in a corner. The Wasps got back on top and a brilliant run by Kyle Stone had the keeper rushing off his line to save bravely at his feet. Then, against the run of play in the last minute of the first half, Newton Abbot broke away and the shot left Hardwick no chance. In the second half the Wasps continued to attack and a Kyle Stone shot was saved well before Rick Pollington tackled well in midfield and delivered great ball to Tom Collins. Unfortunately the keeper again did well to keep it out. A rare break from Newton Abbot saw them take the lead, Hardwick being only able to parry the ball to the oncoming striker who scored from a tight angle. The Wasps looked for the equaliser and put Newton Abbot under the cosh as first Tom Collins brought a good save out of the keeper, followed by another after Kyle Stone had a shot. Tom Collins hit the post and a great cross by Cam Souter-Frost found Stone whose snap shot went just inches wide. Some good work by Tom Badcott set up Souter-Frost who was so unlucky not to score. Desperate defending from Newton Abbot got the ball away again and it wasn't to be the Wasps' day. The final whistle blew with the score at 2-1 to the visitors. It was a great performance by the Wasps who, on another day, would have had a hatful. The Man of The Match went to striker Tom Collins who ran his socks off and deserved more than just one goal.
