Tournament action for Wasps
West Hill Wasps Under 8s football team managed top spot at Newton St Cyres 5-a-side tournament last weekend.
Under- 8s are protected from the ignominy of knockouts, extra time and penalties and so played in a mini league of seven teams.
A bright start against a very strong Okehampton side saw the Wasps pick up their first win with a single, second half strike from Tom Simmons.
Oliver Benson then scored twice to beat Ivybridge and bagged himself four more goals against Beacon Knights, with Thomas Rush also netting twice.
Some brilliant midfield work by Ben Marsh set up Oliver Benson again for the only goal against Alphington and a fantastic display by Dominic Harrower between the sticks kept Marldon’s strikers down to one goal in the Wasps only defeat of the day. The final match against Plymouth Trophyman produced another win for the Wasps, Sam Read starring in goal and Alex Douglas a constant threat up front.
In the final game, Marldon were only able to manage a draw with Okehampton leaving the Wasps top of the league.
