West Hill Wasps 5, Heavitree Tornadoes 0 Wasps won the Under-11 Plate with a superb all-round performance to brush aside the challenge of the Exeter-based opposition in the final played on the Western League ground of Willand Rovers.

With three first-choice players missing Wasps had to shuffle their pack starting with Alex Douglas up front, James Horler on the left and Will Amos at the back.

The first half saw West Hill quickly into their stride, playing some delightful passing football.

The opening goal arrived following god approach play involving Jack Hatswell and Alex Douglas which released Ollie Benson to rifle a left-footed shot home.

Ben Marsh and Hatswell were causing a constant threat with powerful wing work, but Heavitree battled back and were denied an equaliser when Dominic Harrower made a smart save.

After the break Joseph Green came on in midfield and Louis Robertson-Moro took over at right back. Hatswell led an attack with a direct run and found Douglas who, in turn tucked the ball to Benson who, with his back to goal, turned and slammed the ball home.

Moments later a Douglas cut-back across the face of goal was turned home by a defender and three became four when Jonathan Pitcher scored.

The final goal arrived with five minutes remaining. Ollie Benson received the ball wide on the right, laid it back to Euan Webber and he struck a pin-point cross to the far post where Pitcher stabbed it home.

It was left to skipper Bailey Wallace to lift the trophy in front of the exuberant Wasps’ supporters.
