TIPTON St John were left pondering what might have been after dropping a crucial catch when East Devon Indoor Cricket League leaders Clyst Hydon were tottering at 79-5.

Chris Jelley was the beneficiary of Matt Williamson’s drop and he made Tipton pay, going on to make 70, the best individual score of the competition to date, before David Birch bowled him in the last of the 12 overs.

By then, the score was 135 and it proved out of Tipton’s reach. They were dismissed for 61, Steve Shaw making 29.

Another high individual score came from Richard Arnold, with 62 of Exmouth’s 166 all out against Honiton.

Six sixes were included in his knock, which got support from George Greenaway with 21 and James Tapper with 32. T Holmes made 25 not out as Honiton replied with 106-3.

George Biggs and Will Harrison both made 33 not out to see Ottery St Mary up to 118-4 against Newton Poppleford who replied with 100-5. Terry Clay’s 22 and Kenny Clay’s 20 provided hope for Newton Poppleford, but they were both run out.

Sidmouth maintained their unbeaten record after being asked to chase 93 against Clyst Hydon II.

Lewis Morgan and Will Greig both reached the retirement score of 25, but on their return the latter was unable to add to it.

Greig reached 34 before being one of three run-outs.

Despite Paul Garnham presenting an impenetrable barrier at mid off in one of the best individual fielding performances seen in the competition, Sidmouth reached victory with only one wicket down.

Miles Dalton and Fionn Wardrop reached 25 and Charlie Miles finished things off with sixes off the last two balls of the penultimate over on his way to 18 not out.
