DESPITE the fog and rain showers over 50 golfers had recovered sufficiently from Captain’s Day to enter the Allstate Monday Stableford, writes Terry Carter.

Conditions were better earlier in the day; so no surprise that the morning seniors roll up provided a large proportion of the entrants.

Bob Winstone led the way with 42 points, including 20 over the last 7 holes, two points better than fellow senior Peter Emery.

Both usually improve on the back nine, probably because every step takes them nearer to the clubhouse.

They also saw their handicaps ease further south, which will please their friends too.

Callum Hill left his round until later in the day, and took third place with 38 points.
