The Axe Cliff Seniors entertained seniors’ teams from Lyme Regis and Sidmouth Golf Clubs in the final round of the inaugural Winter Mini League between the three clubs, writes Pete Motson.

Having played at their opponents courses in the preceding months, Axe Cliff hosted the event on a beautiful day.

There was some early frost, but the closeness of the scores of most of the groups ensured the declaration of the result had to wait until the final grouping arrived back at the clubhouse.

Up to that point the result was contested between Lyme Regis and Sidmouth with the Lyme Regis seemingly having one hand on the trophy but, with the Sidmouth players scoring double the points of the Lyme player it was a convincing win for the boys of the Sid Valley.

At the meal afterwards, all three captains expressed their delight at the standard of the golf, the quality of the courses and above all the excellent spirit in which the games were played. This competition will continue for many years between three closely matched teams.
