Record crowds at Wiscombe Park saw Ed Hollier start his 2013 season at Wiscombe Park in the best possible way with two victories across the weekend.

The Ottery St Mary driver set the pace from the first practice run on Saturday morning taking his Suzuki Hayabusa powered Pilbeam MP62 to victory in both the Channon and the Mark Salter Memorial Trophy meetings, defeating more powerful cars along the way.

Hollier was not the only local driver enjoying success.

Exeter garage proprietor Steve Clark took the victory in the over 2600 c.c. division of the Road-Going Series Production car class with his Subaru Impress defeating Richard Ingleby’s Audi Quattro by the handsome margin of over 1.6 seconds.

On the second day of the meeting Clarke was seeking a further win but was forced to give best to another Exeter driver as Simon Glover claimed the win in his Mitsubishi Lancer by just over half of one second.

Glover set his winning time on his first official lap which proved fortunate as he damaged the Mitsubishi when he left the track whilst under braking for the testing right-hand bend at The Gate.

The Sunday event saw Crediton’s Den Conibear take the class win which eluded him the previous day.

At the wheel of his nimble Nissan GTiR, Conibear made the most of the turbo power and four-wheel-drive of his Japanese machine to defeat the highly developed Ford Sierra turbo of Geoff Kershaw.

The previous day saw Den take second place in the Modified Limited Production class behind Bob Mortimer’s Porsche 911.

The next weekend of motorsport at Wiscombe Park is on May 11/12.

The Saturday event sees the 500 Owners Club’s annual meeting which revolves around vehicles which utilise motorcycle engines for power so there will be classes for motorcycles and cars, both three and four wheeled.

The following day sees one of the flagship meetings of the season at the East Devon venue with the Vintage Sports Car Club providing the spectacle with a wide range of vintage machines with both road and track origins.

A number of these cars will be making the most of the weekend at Wiscombe Park and will be taking part in the previous day’s event.
