Drivers from Devon will be well represented at Wiscombe Park this weekend in the final regional championship meeting of the year and the final two rounds of the fiercely contested Bridge Tyres and Wheels Point S Wiscombe Park championship.

Both Saturday and Sunday feature counters for major championships so the action will be fast and furious as drivers make a late season challenge to better their positions in the various series.

The competitive class for Road-going Series Production Cars over 1400cc up to 1800cc will see Exmouth’s Mostyn Sherlock in the fray with his MG ZR160 against the likes of Exminster golf professional Jonathan Langmead who will campaign his Lotus Elan S3 as usual.

Langmead will have to deal with the challenge of the similar car driven by Jo and Roger Hodgson which has now been returned to pristine condition following an unplanned visit into the Wiscombe woodland earlier in the season.

The next capacity split, 1800-2600 c.c., will see Exeter driver duo Dave and Shaun Roberts going for the win in the Sunday meeting with their Peugeot 205 GTi.

The over 2600cc division of the Road-going Production Cars invariably provides an exciting battle for the victory and this weekend looks to be no different with Exeter garage proprietor Steve Clarke taking his turbo-charged four wheel drive Subaru Impreza up against the WRX-RA version of Mike Potter, and, on Saturday, the Mitubishi Evo 6RS of Yeovil aeronautics engineer Simon Neve.

The class for Modified Limited Production Cars up to 1400cc is also likely to produce a scintillating battle for honours with Exeter’s Adrian Langley putting his 1380cc Mini up against the rapid Ford Fiesta Supersport of Wiscombe Park championship leader Mark Shillaber.

Peter Blomfield should also figure with his Peugeot 205 GTi as should circuit racer Peter Crewes who makes an appearance back on the hills with his Britax Mini Cooper ‘S’.

Moving up a capacity division the competition will be no less fierce with Honiton Ford Escort drivers Duncan Beer and former Wiscombe champion Martyn Pike taking on the dueling Vauxhalls of Nova pilot Andy Stoddart and Tigra driver Gordon Iles.

Crediton civil engineer Kevin Frost will be seeking success in the Sports Libre Class against Exeter’s Andrew Short.

The former’s 1800cc Zetec powered KMD Sports will need to out-perform the rapid motorcycle engined OMS SC1 of Short.

The main focus for many enthusiasts will be the battle for the prestigious Fastest Time of the Day which will see Rod Eyles face Paul Crute in the large capacity single-seater Racing Car class.

Eyles, from Wellington near Taunton, will put his Hart engined Pilbeam MP53 up against the more recent MP58 Jaguar powered model of Paul Crute.

has been witnessed earlier in the Wiscombe Park season, it is not necessarily the most powerful cars that win and Ottery St Mary racer Ed Hollier will be looking to maintain his one hundred per cent strike rate this season at the East Devon track in his Suzuki Hayabusa powered Pilbeam MP62 from the 1100-1600 racing cart capacity split.

Admission is £7 on each day, with accompanied children under 14-years-of-age admitted free.

There is also free parking. There will be a licensed bar available. Wiscombe Park is situated north of Blackberry Camp. Follow the AA signs from Honiton and on the A3052.
