Sidmouth postie exhibits photos at Kennaway House

PART-TIME Sidmouth postie, photographer Steve Coleman, is proud of his water sign Aquarius.

He is also proud of the selection of some 20 photographs, mostly seascapes, that make up his first solo exhibition in Sidmouth.

Called Aqueous +, it opens on Saturday, November 6 and runs until Friday, November 12, in the Amyatt Gallery at Kennaway House between 10am and 4pm daily.

All the photos, which Steve describes as modern and abstract, are printed on canvas and some are split images, reproduced on several canvases to make a whole picture.

“Every image is of a different size and shape, to show how they can be reproduced,” said Steve, who lives in Station Road.

He says people can choose what size and image they want to fit their room.

His framed views of Sidmouth, and the coastline stretch to Lyme Regis in one direction and Budleigh Salterton in the other, and he hopes local retailers might be interested in his exhibition as well as members of the public.

“Most of the pictures are based around water, some are of beach huts and deckchairs, or the River Sid in the Byes,” he said.

A professional photographer for 20 years, after gaining a degree in photography in 1988, Steve moved to Sidmouth from Oxford two years ago and his previous photographic work was quite different – taking large military or university group shots.

“The children have gone to university and this is a new venture. Being by the sea is an inspiration,” he said.

Steve’s images can be ordered digitally as well through email and he plans to produce greeting cards of his work to sell locally.
