FORMER Sidmouth College student Adam Jarrell, who wowed local audiences with his performance as Jean Valjean in Sidmouth Youth Theatre’s production of Les Miserables, is appearing as the Pharoh in Bill Kenwright’s touring production of Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Princess Theatre, Torquay.

The show opens tonight (Tuesday) and runs until Sunday, May 22.

“I have a six month contract and have been with the team since January,” said Adam, 23, who is originally from Huddersfield. “After Torquay we go to Swindon, then to Ireland.”

Adam describes his lead part as Pharoh as an “Elvis take-off. It is very tongue-in-cheek but good fun. After 30 years’ of Joseph productions, it is good to be part of it.”

Keith Jack, runner-up on the BBC reality talent show Any Dream Will Do to find the next West End Joseph, finally gets his wish and plays the lead in this production.

Since leaving Sidmouth College, Adam has toured the UK as lead singer of his rock band The Tens, supporting the likes of The Feeling and Radio One DJ Zane Lowe.

At 17 he played Javert in the special 20th anniversary production of Les Miserables in London and was Freddie in the award-winning feature film Nuryan.

Other roles have been Tom in a workshop version of Troubled Waters, Leon Czolgosz in the award-winning production of Stephen Sondheim’s Assassins and Mark in the Broadway Studio Theatre production of Rent.

“I will be living out of a suitcase for the next few months but what I really want to go into is TV and films,” said Adam.

“Oh, and I want to do directing as well to broaden my horizons.”
