EVERYONE is welcome to the action-packed Wet and Wild Weekend of free activities run by East Devon District Council's countryside service.

From 10am until 4pm, from Friday, August 21 to Sunday, August 23 there will be pond dipping and bird watching, nets and binoculars for dipping and watching are supplied and experts will be on hand to identify what you can see, and 'Muddy History' is a chance for kids to enjoy archaeology and get muddy.

Moth breakfast on Saturday morning is the chance to look at these under-rated animals, up-close, while indulging in a bacon butty. Bird ringing is an opportunity to see some familiar and unfamiliar garden birds, and breakfast is available at a small charge, also, the borrow pit fish, in Meet the Fish, are very special as the pond has never been stocked before, they have all arrived naturally, probably as eggs stuck to birds' legs.

Black Hole Marsh, a new saline lagoon, is not yet open to the public, but as part of the weekend, there will two evening bird-watching sessions led by local bird enthusiasts, the lagoon will be drained down for the weekend so that even more birds than usual are enticed in by the abundance of food.

Some of the activities are suitable for people in wheelchairs.

For more details, call (01395) 517557.
