Whether the sun shines or it rains, Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband can be enjoyed at Sidholme Hotel, Sidmouth, at the beginning of July.
THE wonderful weather of late is something Idle Theme Theatre Company hopes will continue until July so the audience for its production of Oscar Wilde’s An Ideal Husband can be enjoyed outdoors as intended.
Set in the delightful grounds of Sidholme Hotel, Sidmouth, artistic director Alec Fellows, pictured, wants warm and dry evenings from Thursday, July 8 and Saturday, July 10.
However, should the weather take a change for the worse, it will do nothing to dampen the enjoyment of the play, which will then transfer to Sidholme’s Gothic music room.
Great care has been taken to direct the play for either eventuality.
Alec said: “Although we of course hope that everyone will be able to enjoy the gardens and their picnics in glorious sunshine, fear not, if the great British summer turns out not to be so great we can promise an equally enjoyable evening in the comfort of the indoors.”
Sandria Stewart, Mark Donne-Davis, Brian Rees, Evelyn O’Malley and Marc Colson (fresh from his brilliant performance in Dances at Lughnasa) are busy putting the production together for an ideal night out.
Gardens open at 6.30pm for a picnic before the play starts at 7.30pm. Tickets are 10, available from Paragon Books, High Street, or by calling (01395) 577 433.
You can also catch An Ideal Husband at Otterton Mill on the 24th July (01395) 568 521.
