A folk concert in aid of Sidmouth Living With Cancer’s mini-bus appeal raises more than 1,000

A FOLK concert in aid of Sidmouth Living With Cancer’s mini-bus appeal has raised more than 1,000.

Organised by Ruth Lewis, a member of Sidmouth Steppers and Sid Vale Folk Choir, top of the bill at last month’s event was Phil Beer from Show of Hands and Paul Downes.

Ruth organised A Night to Remember in aid of Campaign 2010 and, says Bill Lankester, one of the group’s founders, it was a “truly spectacular night for folk fans.”

The evening began with Sidmouth Steppers and five other acts followed. Tom Palmer, who had to pull out of performing at the last minute, was replaced by Reg Meuross from Somerset and won much support for an outstanding performance.

Ruth handed over 1,081 to Evelyn Lankester, treasurer of Sidmouth Living With Cancer Support Group and is also pictured on stage with her daughter and performers Phil Beer and Paul Downes.

Bill said: “We would like to thank Ruth and her daughter Zoe Bastyan, who was stage manager, Scott Maxwell, sound engineer, Mark Colson, all the people who helped and all who attended to make such a successful evening.”
