A DOZEN artists from the Sidmouth area are among East Devon artists taking part in this year’s Devon Open Studios fortnight.

On from Saturday, September 3 until Sunday, September 18, private art studios around the county will be opened to the public.

Free event books are available, detailing each artist, their work and the days they will be available.

Newcomers to the event featured in last week’s Sidmouth Herald. This week we look at the work of other Sid Valley artists, some of whom have been involved with DOS since it began, five years ago.

Liz Vonberg produces vibrant paintings on silk, inspired by marine and botanic life and her exhibition includes scarves and cushions as well as pictures.

Her studio is at Ebdon Farm, Greenhead, Sidbury, and she will be open apart from Wednesday and Thursday evenings during the fortnight.

Also in Sidbury, at her garden studio in Chapel Street, Christina Windley will display work from different media, including ceramics, oil paintings and jewellery. She is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the fortnight.

One of the few sculptors in this year’s event is Michael Gordon-Lee of King Charles Way, Sidmouth.

His high-quality fine art sculptures use the lost-wax process and visitors will be able to see works in progress and several abstract sculptures in the newly created garden.

Closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday evenings during the two week event.

Victoria Goodman produces oil paintings inspired by the Devon landscape surrounding Branscombe, and her work will be on show throughout the fortnight at Thorn Park Golf Centre, Salcombe Regis.

Tucked away, but worth the search, Sandy Macfadyen of Higher Weston Farm, Weston, is a landscape artist and will have oils and pastels of the countryside and seascapes on show between September 3 and 11 apart from Thursday evening.

Richard J Wilson will have his work, including pictures of animals, the cosmos, sacred sites and Buddhist images, on show at East Devon Arts Academy, Old Fore Street, Sidmouth, excluding Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursday evenings.

Alongside will be the work of Catherine Osbond, who specialises in expressive landscapes of the South West.

Julia Hardy’s mixed media seascapes, flowerscapes and unique resin plaques will be on show in her studio/townhouse in Cambridge Terrace, Salcombe Road, Sidmouth, each day during Devon Open Studios fortnight.
