Sidmouth Lion’s annual Great Duck Derby on the River Sid will provide fun for the whole family.

The event, which will take place on Sunday in The Byes, from 2pm until 4.30pm, will feature two spectacular duck races, fun and games.

The entertainment will start at 2.15pm by Sid Park Road pedestrian bridge with a children and parents’ duck and spoon race, followed by the launch from the bridge of several hundred little red corporate ducks, sponsored by local businesses, at 2.45pm.

Several thousand little yellow ducks, each one sponsored by a member of the general public, will then be released as part of the main race, starting at 3pm.

Tickets for the yellow duck race are £1 and can be bought between 10am and 5pm at the Lions’ stand outside the Co-op in Sidmouth High Street today or outside the Lidl store in Woolbrook tomorrow.

They are also on sale at Annies, Old Fore Street, and Paper Moon, Fore Street, and, on Duck Derby Sunday, tickets may also be purchased from Lions’ stands in The Byes. The lucky ‘owners’ of the first 19 yellow ducks to pass the finishing line, by the weir adjacent to Waterloo Bridge, Salcombe Road, will receive a cash prize.

This year, the proceeds from the main yellow duck race will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Sidmouth Admiral Nurse Appeal and Sidmouth Lions’ charity activities.
