Sometime Wonder bring energetic vibe to Sidmouth FolkWeek

ON Old Fore Street Monday night, Ben Edwards, Sam Newth and Richard Pharo, of Shrewsbury, collectively known as Sometime Wonder had set up outside the Old Ship Inn to perform a mix of acoustic folk rock and soulful vocal harmonies.

With an emphasis on original composition and alternative arrangements of established music, it is the first time that the group has brought themselves to the festival.

Richard said: “We knew about it because I came here 12 years ago as a punter. We play at home in Shropshire, but thought it would be an interesting opportunity to bring what we do down here.”

All three are multi-instrumentalists, and the Folk Festival presented them with the perfect outlet to demonstrate both their talents and unusual musical philosophy.

Rather than playing simple carbon copy covers, Sometime Wonder think outside the box in their presentation of music.

Their vocally driven music is interwoven with a variety of string instruments, and delivered with energy and welcoming vibe.

“We play village halls and small local venues at home,” Sam said. “This seemed like the perfect type of event for us and what we are about. We literally just arrived here, and set up.”

The ability to play in the street and attract crowds of passers-by has been beneficial to the band, especially playing so close to the Esplanade.

They hope to return again to the festival and ask you visit their website: www.sometimewonder.co.uk
