Making best use of the Manor Pavilion’s traditional theatre space, some special shows find an ideal home.
Amongst the many fascinating shows are Theatre Ballads. Horse & Bamboo Theatre, who present a newly commissioned piece which vividly reimagines traditional song-stories with puppetry and simple illustrations. The cast includes Kate Locksley, Bryony Griffith, Ewan McLennan and John Kirkpatrick. Voices, harmonies, stories, puppets, music and animation combine to create an evocative new look at visual theatre and folk music.
On Monday afternoon, a very special Sidmouth-born event takes place with Working The Sea and Kin And Community, drawing together the story of two coastal communities. Working The Sea, a film by Butterfly Effect Films for Sidmouth Coastal Community Hub CIC, tells the story of Sidmouth’s fishing heritage by following one family, the Bagwells from the war years onwards, and features a live performance from Sidmouth Sea Fest Community Choir. Kin And Community tells the story of one of the last Gaelic speakers in Easter Ross, with a live soundtrack from Feis Rois Ceilidh Trail and Duncan Chisholm.
The finale show, She Moved Through The Fair: The Legend of Margaret Barry in Music, Words and Song is presented by Colin Irwin and Mary McPartlan. Maggie Barry was extraordinary with a voice that literally stopped the traffic. On the centenary of her birth, Irish singer Mary McPartlan and narrator Colin Irwin are joined by musicians and actors to celebrate Maggie’s colourful, influential and inspirational life in music and song.
