Sidmouth Methodist Church to stage concert by Swing Band from Queen’s College, Taunton

FOLLOWING a gap of three years, the Swing Band from Queen’s College, Taunton, will perform at Sidmouth Methodist Church next month.

The band’s concert, on Friday, March 9, will start at 7.30pm and the evening will lift the spirits and take people back to an age of glorious sounds, stirring many musical memories.

These talented students regularly entertain audiences in Somerset and around the South West and have a well-deserved reputation for the standard of their music.

Their Sidmouth programme will contain many upbeat items and a variety of solo and ensemble pieces in a range of traditional, classical and contemporary styles.

Queen’s College has a flourishing music department with three full-time and 22 visiting teachers, who encourage pupils to explore the full potential of their musical talents.

They provide the opportunity to perform as orchestras, choirs, bands and chamber ensembles, which has led to many extending their studies at universities and conservatoires with a view to pursuing a career in music.

Frequent visits are made to sing and play in West Country churches and this summer they will undertake a music tour to Italy.

Tickets for Sidmouth’s concert are 7, including refreshments, and available from Paragon Books, High Street and on the door.

Two local charities will benefit from proceeds. These are the Norah Harbour Bursary Fund, which helps work being done through Project Return charity to improve the health and education of poor families in Vietnam, and the Paul Lock Memorial Fund, which supports paediatric care across Devon and the South West.
