If current financial doom and gloom is getting you down, treat yourself to a good laugh with Lyme Regis Dramatic Society's production of On the Razzle by Tom Stoppard at the Manor Pavilion on Wednesday and Thursday, May 13 - 14. It's a glorious romp of a farce with several players familiar to Manor Pavilion audiences - Dave Ballinger and Nick Bussian (Brassed Off) Gavin Haines (Peter Pan, Farndale Avenue). Director Cherine Hill is a Sidmouth regular too (Brassed Off, Farndale Avenue) and directed Lyme Regis Dramatic Society's previous successful productions at the Manor Pavilion The Happiest Days of Your Life and Allo Allo.

On the Razzle is set in 1890s Vienna and follows the adventures, trials and tribulations of two downtrodden shop assistants, Weinberl and Christopher. The role of Christopher is traditionally taken by a woman; the original London production featured Felicity Kendall in this role.

The two shop assistants go on the razzle and sample the bright lights of Vienna whilst trying to avoid their curmudgeonly boss Zangler, who is engaged to wealthy widow Madame Knorr. His innocent niece, Marie is pursued by seemingly penniless August (Gavin Haynes). Zangler's cheeky and unruly servant is Melchior (Dave Ballinger). Confusion and mistaken identity are rife and don't ask how a lusty coachman (Nick Bussian), a very saucy French maid, an Italian waiter and a street urchin become entangled in the mayhem!

This energetic production with its clever comic script and hilarious visual antics will leave audiences wishing for more of the madness!
