Lilies on the Land is moving production underscored with laughter
FRESH from a successful tour and critical acclaim in London’s West End last summer, Fresh Glory Productions stages Lilies on the Land, a play by the Lions Part, at Exeter Northcott theatre this month.
Celebrating an extraordinary episode in Britain’s history, based on hundreds of letters and interviews with original Land Girls, with songs from the period, this remarkable piece of theatre is on from Tuesday, March 15 to Saturday, March 19 from 7.30pm, with a schools’ matinee on the Thursday at 2.30pm and a Saturday matinee.
Making its West Country debut, Lilies on the Land charts the personal journeys of four women who signed up for the Women’s Land Army more than 70 years ago in World War II.
The rigours of rural farming life and a determined desire to contribute to their country’s war effort are revealed with humour and honesty - from overalls full of mice and three inch baths to toilet rolls from the sky and eight stone sacks of potatoes.
A moving production, underscored with laughter in the face of unexpected events, and revealing a wide range of experience, this play is theatre at its most memorable.
