Memory Lane Swing Band return to Sidmouth for charity concert in June

AFTER an absence of two years, the popular 17-strong Memory Lane Swing Band and new vocalist Colin Robbins, will return to Sidmouth’s Manor Pavilion Theatre for a charity concert organised by Sidmouth Lions Club.

The band, formed in 2002 and based near Dorchester, will appear on Saturday, June 4 under its musical director Kevin Morgan, who is also principal trombone player with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

The big band music encompasses swing, Latin, jazz and romantic music; the sound associated with great singers such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Bassey.

The band also performs well known instrumental numbers from such greats as Duke Ellington through to Stan Kenton, and these provide the accompaniment for vocalist Colin Robbins.

Sidmouth Lions Club has organised the concert to raise funds for FORCE, the Exeter-based cancer charity.

The performance begins at 7.45pm on June 4 and tickets are £10, available from the theatre box office (01395) 514413.
