Big Draw to become annual event for Sidmouth says organiser Cathy
DESPITE the blustery wind, artists congregated on Sidmouth’s seafront on Sunday to take part in a Big Seaside Draw event.
Local artist Catherine Osbond, together with South West Art Materials, Sidmouth, organised the largest ever Devon Paintathon, which started at 11am and finished at 3pm.
Artists from around Devon took part in the mammoth drawing and painting extravaganza and, said Catherine, she was pleased with the turnout, considering the windy weather.
She said: “We had lots of paper and loose canvas fluttering around, but at least the sun was shining and it was warm.
“We had people sketching and painting, some with easels, some with paper and canvas weighted down with pebbles against the wind.”
Artist Steve MacCracken had a large canvas spread across the stones, which he put into the waves for added texture.
It was swept slightly out to sea, said Catherine, who said he managed to safely retrieve it.
People of all ages attended the event, which, says Catherine, is planned to become an annual occurrence “and something that Sidmouth will become renowned for.”
