Four new holiday homes could be built on the former Sidholme Hotel in the town, if plans are approved.

A planning application was submitted to EDDC to build 'Four new townhouses on site of former garage at Sidholme Hotel.'

The application says: "The houses are intended for short- or medium-term holiday letting in support of the Sidholme Hotel. As such and in line with Historic England comments, gardens are not provided."

"It is no longer functioning as a garage and is largely redundant and underutilized, although it does provide occasional storage."

Four terraced, two bedroom townhouses. Acess to the site will be built with access off Brewery Lane. Parking for the houses will be north of the townhouses and If needed, more parking may be arranged via a permit system by using the Sidholne Hotel car-park.

The application goes onto say: "This arrangement will allow a flexibility to tailor the car parking spaces to the numbers required by the occupiers of the proposed townhouses. It will also serve to mitigate against an increase in parking pressures on local roads.

"The hotel and its outbuildings, including the garage, sit within the hotel estate and the extensive surrounding grounds. The garage and site is to the North East side of the Sidholme Hotel."

"The garage is a single storey, red brick faced structure with a corrugated – possibly asbestos containing – pitched roof. Two large timber gates face West, addressing the Sidholme Hotel grounds. The houses will have the same height and footprint as the garage."

The plan has been submitted on the East Devon District Council website, it will go to the planning commitee at EDDC, who will approve or refuse the application.
