Ottery businessman Omer Akbulut has announced he will be running a new chicken shop in the town in the new year.

Omer currently runs the Charcoal Grill Kebab House on Mill Street.

Earlier this year, Omer led a huge community response to the earthquake in Turkey from his shop, donating a day's takings to the disaster appeal.

Charcoal Grill will remain open and will be operated by one of Omer's close friends.

From the first week of January, his new venture, Omar's Chicken House, will open on Broad Street.

In a Facebook post, Omer said: "I would like to say massive thanks all of you.

"I moved to Ottery in September 2004 since then we had up and downs, really good times, had a laugh and more, but I have decided to do new adventure for myself and family after 19 years in Ottery.

"One of best friend taking over Charcoal Grill.

"He's going to be new ownership after the first week of January. He is a very good man I wish him to be very successful business in Ottery St Mary.

"Myself and family thanks for everyone who helped us so much."

He added: "Thanks for all your lovely wishes. It's so hard for me after 19 years, but I am not leaving Ottery - I will be running Omar's Chicken House full-time."

Omer's last shift at Charcoal Grill will be in the first week of January. Updates on the new business are being shared on its Facebook page, Omar's Chicken House.
