Newton Poppleford Parish Council's climate change committee has been working to plant trees around the village.

35 trees were planted during the early months of 2024 bringing the total to 140 new trees planted over the past couple of years.

Organisations and residents donated the trees. They have been planted as memorials to the trees lost by flooding.

Three trees were planted as memorials to councillor Val Ranger, all of which were donated by residents.

At the end of January, six Year 6 pupils helped to plant six new cherry trees (donated by the RSPB) in the school field.

A spokesman said: "As usual, all the good work was only achieved by willing volunteers rolling up their sleeves and getting stuck in so many thanks to everyone who helped with planting, weeding, etc. We’ll continue to find ways of improving bio-diversity in the parish so if you’re interested in either joining the group or with helping at individual events you’ll be very welcome."
