A planning application has been submitted to build 36 new houses in West Hill.

The full application from Strongvox Homes asks to build 36 homes (50 per cent of which will be provided as affordable housing), formation of access, open space and associated infrastructure on land to the South on land south of Windmill Lane.

StrongVox Homes says: "The main aim of the project is to create an attractive new residential environment of the highest quality by responding and celebrating the existing mature green setting within which the site lies.

"The existing hedgerows and protected trees around the perimeter of the site will be retained and respected within the various green spaces for the benefit of the ecology, landscape setting, and the enjoyment of the residents.

"The proposed new public open space will accommodate a new footpath link to allow for a potential future connection south east to the local facilities in the village."

The homes will range from one bedroom to five bedrooms in size. Half will be affordable. East Devon District Council's requirement is 25 per cent.

A number of bungalows will also be provided, with a public open space, off-street car parking and visitor spaces.

The site is a preferred allocation for housing in the emerging East Devon Local Plan 2020-2040 for Ottery St Mary and the West Hill area of East Devon.

The application has been submitted and will be approved or refused by East Devon District Council officers.
